Stories That Echo

Upfilm Productions, a film production company based in Ontario, Canada, was established in 2006. Known for its high-quality productions and visually stunning films, Upfilm is committed to telling diverse and compelling stories that highlight BIPOC perspectives. The company focuses on films that encourage healing, explore human psychology and social issues, and inspire change.

Their feature documentary Ketchup & Soya Sauce was broadcast on CBC and GEM in 2019, bringing its engaging narrative to a wide audience. The film earned a nomination for Best Feature Film at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival and received the Award of Excellence at the Accolade Competition, showcasing the company’s dedication to impactful storytelling and excellent cinematography.

In 2024, Upfilm celebrated further success with The Teacup, a short fiction film that won the Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival, Best International Short at the Rock the Shorts Film Festival in Los Angeles, the Silver Remi Award at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival, and the Best Directing Award at the WIFT Showcase Film Festival. The Teacup also circulated in Academy Award, BAFTA, and Canadian Screen Award qualifying film festivals.

Looking ahead, Upfilm Productions is developing two feature-length supernatural dramas: Under the Red Umbrella—a cocktail of comic moments, suspense, and emotional drama; and Chloe’s Still Here—a story about the impact of narcissistic parenting on two generations, blending surrealism, realism, and magic realism. Also in the pipeline are Reunion, a comic and heartfelt short film, and Made in Canada, a TV documentary series exploring Canadian identity through diverse perspectives.
